Are online doctor appointments covered by Medicare?

The Commonwealth Government has announced an end to Medicare rebates and bulk billing for Telehealth GP Consults effective Monday 20 July 2020. Under current COVID-19 health measures, only GP Clinics that have seen a patient face to face within the past 12 months are now eligible to claim Medicare for a telehealth consult. You may be eligible to Redeem a Benefit using your insurance policy or employer issued voucher code.

How can I receive my prescription?

If your doctor prescribes medication for you, you can receive your prescription by:

  • Electronic prescription sent to your mobile as an SMS; or
  • Digital copy of a paper prescription sent via fax and email to your local pharmacy

Electronic prescriptions are available to all Medicare card holders and are a convenient alternative to a paper prescription, which is no longer required. An SMS is sent directly to your mobile phone, which you take to your preferred pharmacy, and they dispense your medication by scanning the code within the SMS.

Can I renew a prescription online?

Yes, our simple, affordable QuickScript service allows you to request a repeat prescription in minutes, using our online assessment tool. A registered Australian doctor will review your assessment and provide a prescription if they deem it is appropriate for your ongoing care. In most cases we can have your prescription to the pharmacy of your choice. The questionnaire is specific to the medication and the condition it supports.
