Frequently asked questions

Payments and billing
How am I paid?
We provide a couple of payment options for our doctors, including:
- Hourly rate
- Percentage basis
Payment is made monthly, in arrears. Payment is made on the 7th of the following month. A remittance is sent upon payment and is followed by a detailed invoice and consultation report. Any queries regarding payment of invoices should be directed to our Accounts Payable team
(ap@vitura.com.au).
To enable payment, we require:
- Invoice entity
- ABN
- Address
- Account name
- BSB and account number
- Confirmation of GST status
What are the business hours’ rates?
Hourly rate
$100/hour Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm AEST
$110/hour Saturdays and Sundays 8am – 6pm AEST
Doctors:
- Must be rostered on
- Must be available on demand and for scheduled appointments
Business hours’ % basis – 65%
Options are:
- Scheduled hours (rostered)
- Ad hoc availability (on demand only) (if you cannot commit to a set roster)
Please note that our algorithm will prioritise our rostered/hourly rate doctors and we cannot guarantee the number of patients that will be seen within each hour.
What are the after-hours’ rates?
After-hours’ % basis – 70% of consultation fee for all doctors during the after-hours’ period i.e. after 6pm and before 8am AEST. There is no hourly rate payable during the after-hours period.
We have doctors rostered at all times, including in the after-hours’ period.
Scheduled sessions will enable greater chance of bookings in the after hours’ period. Even if you receive an hourly rate during business hours, you will receive payment on a % basis for any after hours’ consultations.
What does it mean if an appointment shows a $0 payment?
A $0 payment means the consult is covered by an insurer or business partner (B2B), such as Bupa or Allianz for overseas students/visitors. The patient doesn’t pay upfront — instead, we invoice the partner directly. You’ll still receive a percentage of the fee paid by the B2B partner, which may be at a discounted rate based on their consultation volume.
Rostering
Commitment to roster
We have service level agreements with our commercial partners, and we commit to have a doctor available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We therefore require a committed number of doctors to fill our 24-hour roster.
However, if you are unable to commit to a regular roster and prefer to make yourself available “on demand” on an ad hoc basis, then you will take 65% of any consults taken during the day (8 am to 6 pm AEST, 7 days a week) and 70% of any consult rates after hours (6pm – 8am AEST, 7 days a week).
Rostered hours incentive
From 1 August 2021, Doctors on Demand introduced an incentive package for our new recruits to encourage commitment to our roster. As our business continues to grow, we require certainty that we will have sufficient doctor capacity to service the patients who are accessing our platform. Whilst we continue to encourage doctors to make themselves available “on demand” when they are able, we are seeking commitment to rostered hours to ensure we can provide a consistent and convenient service for our patients.
Details of the incentive package are:
A $500 bonus payment will be made upon completion of:
- 40 committed and scheduled rostered business hours within the first month of commencement
- Ad hoc / on demand hours worked will not contribute to the count of 40 hours
- Payment will be made on acceptance by the Provider Manager of completion of the requisite hours, to your nominated bank account
Referral incentive
Doctors on Demand has also introduced an incentive offered based on referrals of new doctors to our service. The incentive is $500 payable to the referrer on a new recruit signing up and completing 40 rostered hours within the first month of commencement, in line with the rostered hours incentive above.
How does the roster work?
Doctors on Demand operates a 24-hour roster. The roster is completed a month in advance.
As we have doctors working in all states of Australia, we use AEST in completing the roster. Our instance of MediRecords is also set to AEST. Please adjust the times for your own time zone.
In completing the roster, we consider your advised availability and the needs of the business to agree on a monthly roster.
If you are unable to complete your rostered shifts, please provide a minimum of 24 hours’ notice (except in cases of emergency) so that alternative cover can be sourced and booked consultations can be allocated to other doctors.
What is the % rate based on?
The percentage basis is payable on the consultation fee (revenue) received by Doctors on Demand for each appointment.
Doctors on Demand standard rates are:
- Business hours – $60
- After-hours – $90
Some B2B partners receive discounted consultation rates based on their commercial agreement with us. These rates may change as contracts are renewed.
Doctors on Demand invests heavily in platform maintenance, national marketing, and patient support. We have a dedicated Concierge Team for patient and doctor support, and a development team continually improving the platform. Unlike traditional clinics, we don’t receive Government support (e.g. PIP payments), so our pricing reflects the cost of running a fully digital, nationwide service.
When you consult with Doctors on Demand, you are also provided with:
- Extensive onboarding, including training on the platform, collateral and continued support
- Peer to peer support, through quarterly Webinars facilitated by Doctors on Demand
- Access to MediRecords, Practice Management Software
- Access to eTG online
- Admin support – 7 days/week
- Software support
Pathology and radiology
Pathology and radiology requests
Patients can request pathology and radiology tests just like in a regular GP clinic. MediRecords uses universal request forms accepted Australia-wide — for example, a QML form can be used in Tasmania.
There’s no need to print forms. Simply sign them digitally, save and upload them to the Doctors on Demand Portal by following the provided steps.
All requests and referrals are created in MediRecords. Our system is integrated with HealthLink, Fetch and Medical Objects, so results are delivered straight to your MediRecords inbox. If we receive any results via fax, they’ll also be forwarded to you through MediRecords messaging.
Please check your MediRecords messages regularly and request any follow-up action required.
Once a referral or request is uploaded to the Portal, it’s automatically emailed to the patient. Medical Certificates are sent the same way as part of the standard workflow.
Prescriptions
What is the demand like?
Our service offers 4 – 6 consultations slots per hour (up to 15 minutes each). Patients access our service via our website. Patients can choose a scheduled appointment time or choose to wait in the queue for an “on demand” appointment.
Doctors on Demand employs several methods to alert you to patients who are waiting in our virtual waiting room:
- Audible notification
- SMS
- Email notification
- Push notification
- Robocall (in the after-hours’ period for rostered doctors)
What is the process of providing prescriptions?
Our doctors use MediRecords (MR) to create prescriptions.
For patients with a Medicare card or IHI number, eScripts are the default. These are sent directly to the patient’s mobile. Before issuing, validate the IHI in MR and mark the eScript as generated when closing the appointment. [ePrescribing instructions here].
Patients without Medicare (e.g. overseas students/visitors) can still receive eScripts using their IHI. We provide guidance on this during booking.
We also support a hybrid model — both eScripts and paper prescriptions are available.
Our current workflow for patients without Medicare/or have opted out of receiving an eScript token is:
- Create the paper prescription in MediRecords
- Print the prescription (hard copy)
- Sign the prescription (by hand)
- Upload the image to the Doctors on Demand appointment (either by scanning it or taking a photographic image)
Once the script is uploaded, it is automatically sent via fax and email to the patient’s chosen pharmacy.
Hard copy scripts must be sent to the dispensing pharmacy within 7 days (maximum). Please post hard copy prescriptions to us at Doctors on Demand weekly at the following postal address:
