Prescriptions

What is an eScript?

An eScript (electronic prescription) is a secure digital version of a paper prescription. Instead of receiving a printed script, you are sent a unique QR code or token by SMS or email, which you can take to any participating pharmacy to have your medication dispensed.

eScripts are convenient, safe and easy to store on your phone, reducing the risk of lost or damaged paper prescriptions.

In order to be able to receive an eScript, you need an IHI (Individual Health Identifier) that identifies you for health care purposes in Australia. If you have a Medicare cards, are registered for Medicare, or have a DVA card, you will already have an IHI. If you’re a visitor to Australia, you can apply for an IHI with Services Australia here.
