Medicare telehealth items now available in Australia.
In some great news for Australian healthcare the Government has introduced Medicare telehealth items. Currently these new MBS Item numbers are only available until 30 September 2020 though we are hopeful that this service becomes the norm and the period is extended after the COVID-19 pandemic eases.
So what does this mean for bulk billing and medicare rebates?
When you select a Bulk Bill Doctor you will have no out of pocket costs for your online consultation if you have a valid Medicare Card. Or you can choose a Medicare Eligible doctor at a time that suits you, pay for your consultation with your credit card and we will lodge your Medicare claim on your behalf automatically. Your minimum telehealth GP rebate is $38.20. Additional Medicare rebates may apply if you are in a regional area or a concession card holder. All Medicare card holders are eligible for a Medicare telehealth rebate until 30 September 2020 under the current COVID-19 healthcare regulations.
