Queensland telehealth start-up Doctors on Demand has signed an agreement with Allianz Global Assistance (AGA), which will see the company’s web and app platform for video GP consultation and repeat prescription be made available to AGA’s nominated business partners nationally. Following the agreement, AGA’s nominated business partners will be able to provide their employees, members or customers video doctor and prescription services no matter where they are.
Doctors on Demand provides patients with a quick and easy platform to consult via video-conferencing appointments or online questionnaires and enables them to have their prescription sent to a pharmacy around the country.
Doctors on Demand Director, John Martin said the agreement with AGA was a huge vote of confidence in the company and the future of telehealth in Australia.
“Our unique software combines video-conference telehealth appointments and the ability to request a repeat prescription for a long term condition without a face-to-face consult, from the comfort of their home,” he said.
“Our aim is to improve access to healthcare for all Australians, which will have benefits for rural and indigenous health, hospitals and out-patients and the primary health network around Australia.”
Allianz Global Assistance Chief Sales Officer, Brad Smith, said Doctors on Demand would be added to the company’s Health & LifeCare product range and be available to certain B2B partners.
“This is a great solution that will provide our partners with the comfort and peace of mind of knowing that their employees, members and customers have access to experienced Australian doctors via video conference and telephone and can also access repeat prescriptions.”
While Allianz telemedicine research (November 2015) shows that approximately 60 per cent of GP consults can be handled over telehealth platforms, Mr Martin said face-to-face delivery would remain the ‘Gold Standard’ in medicine. The Doctors on Demand technology is designed to seamlessly integrate with traditional primary medical care, while avoiding expensive treatment options such as hospital emergency departments, or home doctor services.
“Telehealth is a supporting product that facilitates broader delivery of services where face-to-face consultation is unnecessary or impractical.”

Mr Martin said the medical profession was not immune to the forces that were disrupting a host of other industries, and Doctors on Demand delivers an immediate eHealth solution to the healthcare providers so that they can compete on a level playing field.
“Consumers are accustomed to undertaking more and more activities in an online environment; a simple visit to a doctor or getting a script filled should be no different,” said Mr Martin.
